      This dahl was so delicious!!! There doesn't seem to be any instructions as to when to add the onions - so I added them at step 2, after the cumin seeds - let them cook until slightly browned and then continued from there.Noting that you said this makes a mild dahl and to increase the spices to suit..I did...I doubled all of the spices apart from the cumin seeds.Totally wonderful taste - the cilantro/coriander adds to the wonderful flavour.I served this dish with Delhi Potatoes Delhi Potatoes by Daydream and Naan (Indian Flat Bread) Naan (Indian Flat Bread) by you. Totally yummy!!!!

      I didn't really measure anything in this recipe but it turned out very good. I also added a little malaysian curry powder and a little garam masala. We loved it!! Great recipe thank you.

      "Hmm wow tasty" is what I said when I put the first spoon of this delicious dal in my mouth tonight for dinner:) This is VERY TASTY! The only thing I forgot to use in this recipe was garlic, but this still tastes wonderful, so I am just going to stick to it without the garlic. I loved this dish with yogurt and white rice. I'll be making this ALOT! The only thing I wanted to point out is that the amount of water that this required was 5 1/2 cups to boil the dal with the ginger and salt{ I used 1/2 tsp. salt} and then I had to add 2 cups of water in step 4. Without these 2 cups, the water was hardly any left in the pot and this was more like a dried lentil veggie dish than a dal. The addition of water really made this a 'dal' so to speak. I allowed the dal to simmer for 10 good minutes before I had it. It was sooooooo good! Thanks for the recipe!
